Sidney Harman Program

Baruch College invited my studio art class to design a series of posters for them to choose for their Sidney Harman Writer-in-Residence Program. The flyers are meant to encourage students to apply for a chance to learn from writers in a course they would be teaching in a semester, and promoting the empowerment of young writers’ voices.

design process

I came up with three drafts for what the posters could look like and decided that the bottom one worked as a keyboard style since writers type out their work. I separated each letter with different colors and put them against a dark background so that the main title of each flyer would stand out. The titles were made dramatically larger for hierarchy purposes. I used the same colors slightly in the smaller typography, and created a simple portrait artwork that would distinguish the two writers being showcased in the flyers.

reflection

This project involved a lot of revisions and feedback from the class, the professor, and the program directors. I really like the process of revising and critiquing design work, especially when it comes to my own since I personally get to see the evolution of where I started to where I ended.
